Current perspectives on local and global fishing commons research and policy

October 12, 2018
12:00 noon, UTC -8

In this webinar, Xavier will provide a broad summary of the global status of the world’s fisheries with a particular focus on small-scale fisheries. Fisheries are a quintessential example of a commons and small-scale fisheries have chronically received less attention despite providing a source of livelihood to more than 90% of the world’s fishers. In this event I will synthesize some of what we know globally about small-scale fisheries, some of the main challenges they face and challenges researchers face to better understand this beautiful socially, economically and environmentally important human activity that has been taking place since time immemorial.
