Urban Commons: Revitalizing the Urban Common Space through Arts and Collaboration

October 6, 2018 (11:00 am)

Date & time: 6 October 2018 at 11 am, ca. 2 hours, incl. coffee and discussion (in English)

Meeting point: Corner of Landsberger Str. / Reideburger Str. in Halle (Saale)

Freiraumgalerie is a collection of more than 70 urban art modern wall paintings done by local and international artists, as well as with participation of local residents. It has also an inspiring story of a grassroots movement with a local as well as global impact. An excursion guided by Mr. Philipp Kienast, a member of the Freiraumgalerie team, is organized for the World Commons Week (worldcommonsweek.org). We will tell you the latest developments on what “commons” mean, how commonizing can revitalize urban life, and what we can learn from traditional agricultural commons. A team of multiple social urban development projects at the NGO Culture Goes Europe e.V. from Erfurt (cge-erfurt.org) will be our special guests.

Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Policy of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC) Regional Group for Europe will cover the excursion fee.

Please register for the excursion no later than 1 October 2018. Places are limited (first come basis). To register send an email to ilkhom.soliev@landw.uni-halle.de.
