Fallow land, vacancy, anonymity, stagnation – not all people between Dortmund and Duisburg want to settle for it. On the contrary. More and more people are discovering opportunities and start actively shaping everyday urban life: A living room in the middle of the street, neighborhood, community gardens. City district stores, repair cafés and tenant initiatives are emerging in the niches of the cities – independently, independently and together. The film “The opposite of grey” by Matthias Coers and Recht auf Stadt Ruhr shows different groups who live practical utopias and open spaces and fight for a solidary and ecological cooperation in the Commons that can be found in urban space. The urbanists have supported the filmmakers in creating the film. Our aim is to encourage more people to realize their own ideas and initiate discourses of creative use of space through the projects shown in the film.
